The Strawbale house is located in Trego, WI; we are only 2 hours from the Mpls./St. Paul, Minnesota, 10 minutes from Spooner WI, and 20 minutes from Hayward Wisconsin, home of the American Birkebiener, cross-country ski race and the Fat Tire Festival, mountain bike race

Because of our beautiful forests, lakes, rivers and trails, Northwest Wisconsin is known as Wisconsin’s vacation land. Incorporate your visit to the Strawbale House with some of our many recreational opportunities.

We are just 2 miles from the wild and scenic Namekagon River, part of the two hundred fifty-two mile long St. Croix National Wild and Scenic Riverway. The Namekagon is one of the finest canoeing rivers in the state, with great fishing and beautiful primitive camp sites maintained by the National Park Service. Bring your canoe and take a day trip or camp along the river for up to a week. Take advantage of our vehicle shuttle service, put in at one of the many landings and we will deliver your vehicle to your designated take out, for your convenience. Your vehicle will be safely parked at the Strawbale House until the morning of your take out. Don't have a canoe, we will rent you one and shuttle you too. Shari and Dave owned and operated a canoe outfitting service along the river for eight years. We know the river well and can help you plan your trip and supply you with maps.
